Plodding Predictability of Hollywood
GEEK NOTES….Denzel Washington’s new film, “Safe House”, has received an inordinate amount of publicity in the weeks leading to today’s release.
Are you like me? Frightened of people that can’t figure out the entire plot based on just one 30 second add?
See, Denzel, an intelligence expert “gone rogue”, will, just when all the white people are suitably perplexed, reveal it all have been a ruse so he could trap the real bad guy. Is this the return of Spike Lee’s “Magic Negro”, the African American character used as a plot device to save the day for dumb whitey? (Lee was apoplectic over the innate racism of The Green Mile, a rabid piece of crap, and he unleashed a torrent of abuse at Hollywood). I dunno, and I certainly won’t be spending any money to find out…
GRID IRON…latest reports on Peyton Manning indicate he has no velocity and can’t throw the ball to the left. Well, heck, Trent Dilfer carved out a Superbowl winning career with precisely those attributes…
…I’m sick of the blame game being played concerning the New England failure in the Superbowl. I believe Belichick played far too conservatively, yes, but that thought has to be tempered by the realization that he had no legitimate deep threats with which to spread the field. Secondly, the Pats had horrible field position all day. They could not catch a break and started every series well within their own territory…
THE ICE…Boston’s Tim “I Stand With The Catholics In Support Of Religious Freedom” Thomas is going to be tolerated by the Bruins head office as long as Tuukka Rask continues to have games like Wednesday’s against Buffalo, where he lasted all of 22 minutes. Thomas can continue his frenzied Facebook rants as long as there remains a clear need for the Tea Party nut in the Beantown net…and, yes peeps, it’s awesome to have a hockey player expressing genuine opinions…
PUG LIFE…England’s Carl Froch and Canada’s Lucian Bute, two of the best super middleweights in the world, are apparently working on a home and away series, one where they would agree to fight in Nottingham and in Montreal. These are two fantastic athletes and the deal is a winner for fight fans who, strangely, seem to be overwhelmed with good news in 2012… (won’t last, nope, never does)…
…the new Ring Magazine arrived today and Editor Michael Rosenthal states that Manny Pacquiao wants the fight, Floyd Mayweather wants the fight, but that promoter Bob Arum does not want the fight. Arum makes a mint for every Pacquiao fight, regardless of whom he battles. The result is a silly excursion for the Pac Man against “Timid” Timothy Bradley on June 9th, a waste of time but one that will likely generate over a million buys from Pacquiao’s hard core fans…Arum can’t see the point of taking a risk while the money pours in…what could happen? Pacquiao could insist that his promoter make the Mayweather fight, something he has neglected to do thus far…
PONIES…a name to remember; Fed Biz. The three year old son of Giant’s Causeway electrified observers at Santa Anita yesterday, winning a one mile allowance in sizzling time. Trained by Bob Baffert, the 950k yearling ran greenly but is clearly loaded with over-the-top talent. After the race, and recall, this was an allowance race, high profile jock Rafael Bejerano said, “This is my Derby horse”…Fed Biz is currently available at 20-1 in the Kentucky Derby futures pool…
