Cutler Craps Pants At Thought Josh Wants To Move Him
The Pittsburgh Steelers have lost just one starter through the 2009 free agency period. The team’s commitment to keeping the Super Bowl winning squad intact is admirable but misguided. That offensive line is going to get QB Ben Roethlisberger killed and changes should have been made…watching the Steelers struggle to run against the Arizona Cardinals in the second half of the Super Bowl made it abundantly clear to these jaded eyes that this is not going to be a team that repeats…forgotten amid all the Terrell Owens to Buffalo hype are two interesting facts; one, the Bills could have picked up Terry Holt for a song and, two, Holt is the more accomplished receiver over the past five years…Josh McDaniels, new coach of the Denver Broncos, enjoyed a close and fruitful relationship with Matt Cassells while the pair toiled for the New England Patriots. When the Pats decided to move Cassells it was logical that McDaniels would be contacted. Current pivot Jay Cutler, however, went ballistic upon hearing rumours he was being shopped. He has demanded a trade, leaving the Broncos with the unenviable prospect of losing a blue chip QB with the potential for another decade at the helm. Here’s the skinny; the Bronco organization cannot trade Cutler. Whatever they have to do to heal the injured Primma Donna feelings, it is critical they embark on that mission. Now. The Tampa organization is desperate to bring Cutler to their team but, flatly, that is one trade that will not happen…just an aside on the Donte Stallworth case. The Cleveland Brown receiver killed a pedestrian in Florida on March 14th and media speculation has centred on a potential involvement of alcohol. The accident occurred at 7am. Huh. I thought I misbehaved…Anna Kournikova graces the Jimmy Fallon show tonight, NBC at 11.35pm. Not that I’m advising you to watch Jimmy Fallon. Especially if your still not over the Chevy Chase late night experiment…I can’t think of a Toronto Maple Leaf game since 1993 that I enjoyed as much as light nights dramatic win over the Washington Capitals. The crowd was wild as Curtis Joseph rode to the rescue, and it reminded me how passionate the usually moribund fans can be when the occasion justifies…Alex Oveckin’s celebration of his fiftieth goal was funny, brilliant stuff. There is an old school view of hockey, which includes things like a tolerance for fighting, which just needs to wither away…Don Cherry? Sorry, I would have fired the goof years back, after he sang a hateful sectarian song on the CBC while marking St Patrick’s Day…Philadelphia Flyer goalie Martin Biron boasts a .940 save percentage in his last eight starts. The Flyers look poised to significantly impact this years playoffs…tell me Bryan Colangelo is a genius and, right now, I think; Marcus Banks…listen, if you want to put the Major League Baseball season on hiatus for a couple of weeks in August to contest a World Championship, I’ll watch. Enthusiastically. But don’t offer this contest in March, when most Major Leaguers are either fat or indifferent, and expect me to care…Bob Baffert advises his Kentucky Derby prospect PioneeroftheNile is a May foal, and thus will technically be a two year old when he contests the American classic. The Pioneer is in a rough spot with middling Beyers and no experience on the dirt. The Santa Anita Derby on April 4th will feature a showdown with his west coat rival The Pamplemousse and he’ll need to advance his performance to realistically figure as a Derby contender…with foaling season upon us, you can head to Jennifer Morrison’s site (Jen’s Thorough Blog) for some delightful introductions to some young Ontario-breds…Kyle Busch took a wicked shot at Dale Earnhardt Jr after the race at Bristol on Sunday. Taunting the popularity of the “driver who doesn’t seem to win all that much” was nasty but, also, I think something Junior is going to increasingly encounter. The Golden Boy of NASCAR has been blessed with top equipment after joining the Hendricks operation but has delivered lukewarm results. Backlash is about to swamp the 88 car unless he begins to produce…Vitali Klitschko, the best heavyweight in the world (and that’s not saying much these days) scored a ninth round stoppage of Juan Carlos Gomez on Saturday. The fight was shown for free on one of the ESPN’s lesser outlets and yet generated virtually no media coverage. I watched on my computer and could not resist surfing the net as the tedious fight proceeded. Vitali is a very good fighter but also cautious, though nowhere as timid as the glass jawed Vladimir. It is possible he could be involved in some rousing scraps but there is a dearth of reasonable challengers. Ex cruiserweight champ David Haye remains the only viable opponent for either of the Ukrainian brothers…
