Oops He Did It Again…Shane, I’m Not That Innocent
A ripped and aggresive Shane Mosley battered Antonio Margarito last night. Sugar looked better than I have ever seen him and…huh, wait one minute. At 37? Is that possible? An older fighter more powerful than ever before? A 37 year old man demonstrating more speed and agility than his 25 year old self? Oh Shane, you didn’t, you couldn’t have…the two week break before the Superbowl is feeble and demeaning. I cannot fathom whose interests are served by the extended leave…if you don’t have the biggest bet of your life on the Pittsburgh Steelers at -7 then you are not cognizant of every meaningful indicator pointing to a Superbowl massacre…I’ll say it now; one of the busts of Sundays match is going to be the creaking Edgerrin James. He’s been washed up since way back and the Iron Curtain is going to expose his limitations…forgotten fact; former Pittsburgh Steeler coach Bill Cowher was employed for three years by the Kansas City Chiefs. The team is red hot in pursuit of the man to fill their current head coach vacancy…Oakland Raider legend Kenny Stabler did not pass muster for a Hall of Fame spot in 2009, all the more reason to ignore the pathetic stats knobs and their little calculated formulas as they bleed all the passion and meaning from the selection process…Al Iafrates “hardest shot” all star record was broken last night, with a shot of 105.4 miles an hour, by Boston Bruin defenseman Zdeno Chara…the Montreal Canadiens are in a precarious position with the availability of Quebec native Vincent Lecavalier. His 11 year contract, at a robust 8 million a year, makes him a serious liability as North America plunges into economic uncertainty. But the Lightning want him gone, and Habs fans want a local legend returned, costs and long term implications be damned……it’s absolutely scandalous that the Toronto Blue Jays have not even nibbled at the more than 100 free agents that remain unsigned. There are legitimate opportunities to improve the team at reasonable costs but management appears to be utterly indifferent to the fortunes of the team in 2009…very quietly, the New York Yankees are creeping closer to doing the improbable and bringing Andy Pettitte back to the fold for the 2009 season. When the mission is accomplished the Bronx Bombers will have enhanced their prospects for an October renaissance…the Phoenix Suns have lost five of their last six. Steve Nash has stated the team is in “a dark place”. Is the Canuck one step closer to a job in the Big Smoke?…I watched the Roger Federer - Tomas Berdych match in its entirety last night. Simply awesome. I’ve started watching tennis after a friend advised me it was just like boxing, y’know, except with tennis rackets. Sage advice! Last nights match was simply tremendous - Federer overcame a two set deficit to roar back for the win…lads, just three weeks to the Daytona 500, a “must see” event on the crowded sports calendar…Lance Armstrong finished 29th overall in the Tour Down Under, 49 seconds off the lead. Older and, due to vigorous testing, stripped of his ‘roids, is Armstrong nothing more than a side attraction, a freak show? We’ll watch with serious interest as the Yank prepares for his assault on the Tour De France in a few short months time…thanks to my best friend, Justin TV, I was able to watch Marco Huck retain his European Cruiserweight title in a sizzling performance yesterday from East Germany…just cannot get through that Benjamin Button movie. Clichéd and politically correct, the dreary spectacle was crafted for morons and members of the Academy…and, hey, did I mention I got 6-1 on the Pittsburgh Steelers winning the Superbowl after the playoffs began? Oh, that’s right, of course I did…
