The New York Jets are 0-3 on the West Coast this season. They travel to Seattle this Sunday to play the Seahawks in a game critical to their post season ambitions. Be careful with the Hawks - their offense on Sunday will be composed entirely of players who were back-ups at the seasons start…the Tennessee Titans are 3-13 without their all pro defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth. He will miss this week’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, winners of five straight on the road… coach Tony Dungy has promised to rest Indianapolis Colt players in the final week if they win tonight against the Jacksonville Jaguars …the Boston Celtics have now won sixteen in a row. The NBA record for consecutive wins is 33, set in 1971-72 by the Los Angeles Lakers…Michael Jordan, the managing member of basketball operations for the Charlotte Bobcats, has a peculiar approach to his position. He tends to be absent for the actual Bobcat games…in a recent interview Washington Capital defenseman Mike Green was asked if his team had the goaltending to contend for the Stanley Cup. Amazingly, Green touted a Cap prospect named Simeon Varlamov as the potential solution. It’s hard to be bullish concerning Jose Theodore and Brent Johnson…Ottawa Senators coach Craig Hartsburg is breaking up the top line of Alfredsson, Heatley and Spezza in an attempt to get more production from his moribund squad…Marian Gaborik scored and assisted in his first start since October for the Minnesota Wild. The Wild lost to Calgary 3-2…the Toronto Blue Jays are desperately silent these days. While remaining free agents offer their wares the dilapidated Jays seem intent on a decline into squalor. I’m thinking the unthinkable. I don’t believe folks in the Big Smoke will continue to support this fetid franchise… TSN is showing a replay of Saturdays Nikolai Valuev - Evander Holyfield fight on Boxing Day at 2.30pm. Some bloggers have commented on the eerie similarity between the fight and the scene in Rocky 4 where an older Apollo Creed is shaken from this mortal coil. Sheesh, people, relax. Valuev could fight with eggs on his fists and nary a shell would get cracked… the Thomas Hauser piece following a big fight is indispensable for all fight fans. His piece on the Pacquaio-De La Hoya fight is now available on the SecondsOut website and, as usual, it is a must read…I was surprised that Hauser alluded to the controversial photos of De La Hoya decked out in fishnet stockings. De La Hoya has claimed the photos are faked, but the prostitute who took the photos of a cross dressing Golden Boy was paid a handsome sum, apparently, to disappear. The fact that Hauser, a circumspect and dignified writer, saw fit to mention the snapshots seems to be a tip-off to his conclusion concerning their authenticity…classic headline from The Onion reads, “Overconfident Big Brown Parties All Night Before Belmont”. The article blames the horse’s subsequent loss on a brutal hangover and a case of the dry heaves…Mossy Riordan R I P, you wild man, we won’t get over your loss and are forever impoverished by your leaving…
