Dynamic Duo Will Dash To Toronto

You hearing what I’m hearing? That the Sedin twins, Daniel and Henrik, will refuse to re-sign with the Vancouver Canucks at the end of the season and, instead, make there way to Brian Burke and the Big Smoke. The twins currently pull in three and three quarter million a year and are adamant that they remain together. They will comprise two thirds of the Leafs top line in 2009/10 if the whispers are to be believed…Marion Gaborik, absent for twenty seven encounters, will hit the ice tonight for the Minnesota Wild. The Wild have five goals in there last five games and desperately need the pump that their most talented player can provide…Todd Bertuzzi and Steve Moore assembled their legal teams for a pow wow in Toronto on Monday. No word if progress was made in developing a solution to Moore’s 38 million dollar lawsuit. Bertuzzi missed fewer than twenty games for his unconscionable hit on Moore. It grates to this day that the thug did not receive his just reward; a stint in the crow bar hotel…shocker from Buffalo has the Bills apparently planning to start Gibran Hamdan at QB Sunday against Denver. J P Losman has been brutal in relief for Trent Edwards and has also been a complete jerk, staring down team-mates after incompletions or botched plays. Losman is as good as gone after the season so the test drive of Hamdan may make sense for Buffalo. Consider this, however. The game is absolutely vital for the San Diego Chargers. A Denver win and the Bolts are out of the playoffs. If the Broncos lose, then the Chargers are on course for a huge final week showdown with the AFC West title on the line. Are the Bills fulfilling their obligation to field the best team possible?…Tarvaris Jackson’s four touchdown passes against the Arizona Cardinals have earned him the starter’s role for the Minnesota Vikings as they match up against the Atlanta Falcons Sunday in a crucial NFC showdown…after a strong showing against the Indianapolis Colts many punters seem to be inclined to back the Detroit Lions as they make another effort to get off the schneid Sunday. I’m not buying it at all. I don’t think Drew Brees will let his New Orleans Saints become passive, particularly as he hunts down Dan Marino’s NFL passing yardage record. Giving only six and a half is an early Christmas gift…the drama continues in Dallas after QB Tony Romo and TE Jason Witten snubbed Terrell Owens by declining to appear at his high profile birthday party. The Cowboys performed magnificently against the N Y Giants on Sunday night but there are still too many fissures on this team for a sustained playoff run…cheeky Stephen Marbury, exiled by the New York Knicks, attended last night’s game at the Staples Centre as a fan (Lakers 114-112, Knicks led starting the fourth). That’s right; he sat in the stands to take in the performance of his former team-mates. He has been banned from attending Knicks practices and the organization was clearly surprised by his appearance. It’s a pity something cannot be done to create a mature response to this situation. While everyone is down on Starbury, I’ve outlined reasons in the past why I think there are redeeming features to the controversial player…Canadian Horse of the Year, and my BFF, Fatal Bullet, has suffered a minor hoof injury and will not be racing in California on Boxing Day. The three year old just needs a few weeks of rest and remains a certainty to engage a boisterous 2009 campaign…the WBC has announced an investigation into the 2003 Shane Mosley - Oscar De La Hoya fight. Shane has confessed to using EPO and other steroids in his preparation for the fight, a battle he won by split decision. Ironically, the judges decision that night was a travesty, robbing Oscar of proper recognition for one of his few “great” performances…rumblings in the fistic world have Floyd Mayweather Jr announcing his return to boxing any day now. Interestingly, he will apparently offer to give Rickey Hatton an immediate rematch, thus scuttling the proposed summer 2009 matching of the Hitman with Manny Pacquaio…former cruiserweight champion David Haye is in the news in Britain on a daily basis. The flamboyant fighter, now at heavyweight, has used his charismatic nature to torment the Klitschkos into giving him a shot at a belt. Unfortunately Haye’s has seriously miscalculated, scheduling a fight with Vitali, who will kill him, instead of Vladimir, against whom he had a legitimate punchers chance…
