The Pittsburgh Steelers defence has not allowed more than 300 yards to any team this year. The Sporting News scouts note the team can stop the run while also terrorizing the opposition QB, a proven formula for playoff success …the Giants are loathe to cut Plaxico Burress for one reason only; his 11 million guaranteed would impact next years salary cap. The Giants no longer require the services of Burress the player…the Texans have won two in a row and they must be heartened by the committed play of Mario Williams, Sage Rosenfels and Steve Slaton, but it is still too little too late for a team far better than their 5-7 record…depressing stat; the Chicago Bears have 46 completions in their past three games, but only thirteen of those completions have garnered in excess of 10 yards…Drew Brees threw three interceptions in the final 20 minutes against the Tampa Bay Bucs on Sunday…before last nights surprising win the Toronto Maple Leafs last won a regular season game over the Los Angles Kings on March 12th 1998. Felix Potvin was in goal for Toronto that night…tonights opponents for the Buds, the San Jose Sharks, are 12-0-1 in the Shark Tank this year. With rumours that many players were happy to see Ron Wilson head out of town, the Leafs would be advised to play with a tad more intensity than was demonstrated in last nights snoozer…Rick Toccet has one win in seven games as coach of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Will he turn the Bolts around? Don’t bet on it…the Florida Panthers have parked Tomas Vokoun on the bench. In what must be a galling slap to the star netminder, the Panthers are using career back-up Craig Anderson…latest Sports Illustrated reveals three time champ Jimmie Johnson was, in fact, baptized as Jimmie, not James… the horse racing blog world is up in arms over the third race at Woodbine on Sun Nov 30th. Bugs Boy, ridden by Simon Husbands, ran second to favourite Come On Love, ridden by Simon’s brother Patrick. It appears Simon had a ton of horse at the top of the stretch but, inexplicably, the horse was never prodded with the whip or “scrubbed”. On his own, the gelding lumbered to a second place finish. Patrick is currently tied with Jim McAleney for the lead in the jockey standings and a number of observers are suspicious of Simon’s marked lack of effort through the stretch run.
