A month ago, on Oct 19th, Brett Favre and his New York Jets floundered against the horrible Oakland Raiders, unable to get any traction in three possessions in O T. Last night, with the division lead on the line, it was Brett the Magician capturing a crucial win against the fabled Patriots…Randy Moss apparently told Favre to “go throw a pick” during the OT coin toss…Michael Vick’s bankruptcy attorneys have advised the courts that Vick intends to resume his career as a National Football League quarterback upon release from prison. Vick is an individual who never matured or progressed, who never delivered on the abundant initial promise. I think he’ll be offered opportunities to try out but don’t think the lucrative starter role he craves is necessarily in the cards…Ravens - Giants on Sunday promises to be the type of game I love. They may not even throw the ball…has any 4-5 team ever received more praise and accolades than the New Orleans Saints? The career year of QB Drew Brees has not translated into success on the gridiron…Oakland Raider wide receiver Javon Walker is out for the rest of the year with a damaged ankle. Walker is the Raiders leading receiver with, wait for it, 15 catches. He is slated to pocket 12 million dollars this year…ho hum, Steven Jackson won’t play for the St Louis Rams this weekend. The Rams star running back sat out training camp and has been burdened since with a series of injuries. The Ram offense is completely ineffective without him…the Boston Bruins won their fifth game in a row last night, surprising the Habs with a 6-1 blast. The Bruins had been Montreal’s doormats recently, going twelve games without a win against their division foes…the Leafs are now four points ahead of the Senators in the Northeast division. Ottawa boasts Heatley, Spezza and Alfredsson while the Buds, uh, don’t… the Los Angeles Kings have won four in a row after edging the struggling Dallas Stars 3-2 last night…S I rumour has the New York Yankees offering pitcher C C Sabithia 25 million a year in a multiple year contract to join the pinstripes…Roy Halladay is a better pitcher than Cliff Lee. Roy Halladay is more respected in baseball than Cliff Lee. Why does Cliff Lee, a pretty good six inning pitcher, get the Cy Young?…the Nikolai Valuev - Evander Holyfield fight for Dec 20th has been confirmed. Holyfield will pocket 750,000, a far cry from the nights where he routinely picked up eight figures. It will be a long, painfully boring fight with Valuev using his massive size and reach to peck away at an ineffectual “Real Deal”…friends of mine who follow NASCAR claim the Truck series offers far more intrigue and excitementthan the cars. They also put beer in their cornflakes and shower fully clothed…local sprint star Fatal Bullet is back on the grounds after his spectacular performance in the Breeders Cup Sprint. Unfortunately he is going to bypass a local start as he prepares for an invasion of the West Coast in December…at WOODBINE…STEP LIGHTLY has shown keen interest in running on the engine. Today she shortens and drops a notch while retaining the grounds top jock. The price seems right on the young filly…in the fourth FROM GRAY TO GOLD drops below the claim price for an astute manager. He’s due to bounce back and should respond with the lighter company. Favourite My Special Angel looks prohibitive at first blush but is off a double top and may not be worth the skimpy price…in the eighth RADIO RELAY is being offered for a song. The Casse runner has demonstrated some speed and he should have the measure of this group of stragglers, louts and donkeys…trainer John Charalambous is a genius when working the seven furlong distance. His charges have a perfect blend of speed and stamina and have thrived while running an extended sprint. His GELHORN is my preference to double up in the ninth…
