Meet The New Lightning, Same As The Old…
It’s nice to catch up with athletic stars after their careers are complete. Lawrence Phillips, ex running back of too many teams to list, is going to jail for ten years after running over three people after a pick-up football match. And two time all star reliever Ugueth Urbina is currently serving a fourteen year sentence in Venezuela after pouring gasoline on labourers on his ranch and setting them on fire…the Boston Red Sox have become sterling in October, now 31-16 since 2000 in that crucial fall month…now that the Cubs have exited, the big payoff for the casual baseball fan has to be the prospect of Manny Ramirez of the Los Angeles Dodgers returning to Beantown for an epic World Series showdown…from the NFL, teams that ran the ball more than 30 times were 9-2 on Sunday…the Bills are on their bye week and they hope to have Trent Edwards back in time for their Oct 19th meeting with San Diego. Back-up J P Losman was largely ineffective at the helm, this despite his role as the starter last year…when the Detroit Lions went to the no huddle against the Bears, confusion ensued. Receiver Roy Williams revealed the Lions rarely practice their two minute offense…playing on arguably the worst team in football Rams left tackle Orlando Pace has been outstanding. He has yet to give up a sack this year…the Eagles continued to play Brian Westbrook after diagnosing a contusion of his ribs during the first quarter of their game against the Redskins. Turns out two ribs are cracked…Regan Smith is making a very strong case that Tony Stewart forced him below the yellow line on the last lap at Talladega Sunday. Smith was Dq’d for passing Stewart late and low but Nascar had always allowed a grey area to exist when cars were on the final lap of a race. Word was, anything went when drivers could see the checkered flag…for a team with a pricey makeover and serious buzz the new Tampa Bay Lightning sure looked like the old Tampa Bay Lightning dropping a pair to the Rangers over the weekend. Ottawa and Pittsburgh managed to split their pair…
