ESPN Woodbine Bound

It was nice to see Rams management finally do something right with their termination of the execrable Scott Linehan. The Rams played with intensity and verve in the first half against the Bills on Sunday but with Trent Green at the helm it was only a matter of time before a series of errors would negate any momentum. Marc Bulger must be given his job back…The Chicago Cubs will need to worry more about Manny Ramirez than any curse. The Dodgers and Cubs have not played in over three months and while the Cubs dominated that series that was before the Red Sox sent Manny to the coast. The Dodgers are red hot with the mercurial outfielder on the roster…c’mon, we’re all cheering for the Cubs! Like the Red Sox and their improbable playoff run in 2004, a Cubs run would become a story bigger than sports…while media hacks are falling over themselves to proclaim the Bills and Titans as the heirs to the AFC crown, I would request a measure of restraint and patience. The Jags are finding their way, as are the Chargers, and the latter two teams will have strong claims by the time December rolls around…we all can agree, however, that the Patriots are in retreat. Those offensive line issues were going to be present whether Brady was healthy or not…and does it resonate with anyone if I proclaim the Houston Texans the best 0-3 team in NFL history? Wait till their schedule softens up and you’ll see what I mean…Jermaine O’Neal is saying all the right things as he prepares to debut as a Toronto Raptor. He believes his efforts with Jose Calderon and Chris Bosh could lead to a very special year in Toronto. Let’s see if he can stay healthy for an entire season before we map out the parade route…four Grade 1 races will be contested at Woodbine on Saturday. Interestingly, the Score has picked up the ESPN feed for the races, available from 4 - 6pm. Jennifer Morrison notes only three horses have been entered in the Summer Stakes, but the other three races on the card have large, sumptuous fields. Quijano, perhaps best in the Northern Dancer, returns and will likely be co favourite (with Doctor Dino) in the days highlight, the Canadian International…
