Proud Spell To Rest

The upset loss in the Cotillion marks the end of Proud Spell’s three year old campaign. This is a blow, one it could scarcely afford, to the Breeders Cup Friday program as her showdown with Music Note would have been one of the highlights of Ladies Day… An interesting interview with Brett Favre’s wife indicated the quarterback’s problems with alcohol may have been more problematic than had been previously known. Severe liver damage and Mrs Favre’s meeting with a divorce lawyer were cited as the reason the former Packer went cold turkey…the Jets have a big match on Sunday against the grizzled Kurt Warner and his Arizona Cardinals. How will Favre react if the Jets stumble to 1-3? How about the media and fans? This relationship could become frosty if Favre demonstrates an inability to grasp the offence while continuing his habit of boneheaded throws…the New England Patriots fans have two intriguing developments to ponder this week. Firstly, the lack of faith the Pats play calling demonstrated in Matt Cassells was surprising. Clearly, the people who watch him on a day to day basis do not believe he is capable of attacking downfield. Secondly, the return of the Randy Moss sulk was a thrill for anyone not a Pats fan, if only for the entertainment value it promises, but the moody receiver’s lack of interest in associating with team mates on the sideline, or pursuing overthrown balls, is reminiscent of the poisonous attitude which sank the Vikings and the Raiders…don’t know about you, but I’m looking forward to betting against the Falcons on Sunday. Wins over the Lions and Chiefs have inflated this team’s rep but they’re back to reality visiting Carolina, lay the seven…also look for the Steelers to expose the Ravens…and A-Rod and his Packers to bounce back against the Bucs…
